Birds that frequent Silver Plains generally co-mingle quite happily. One species, though, is extremely territorial. A nesting pair of canada geese generally drives off any birds — other geese and ducks — that eat the same grains and grasses that comprise their diet; except during migration when flocks of hundreds of geese descend on the pond and surrounding fields. By this time the pair that staked out the pond have been gone for a couple of months, having flown north with their recent brood. We assume that they return with the rest on the flight south.
