characteristics

Inconspicuous perennial until it flowers. Flowers are similar to common dandelions. Pointed leaves have toothed margins, where the teeth can appear somewhat hooked under.

Looks similar to narrowleaf hawksbeard Crepis tectorum when in flower. Two differences are hawksbeard is an annual and the papus (fuzzy part of seed) is white, while hawkweed is a perennial and the papus is light brown. Hawksbeard is also introduced.

Also known as yellow hawkweed.
